My dear friends,
Happy Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary!
Today is just about the only birthday that we celebrate among the saints, as most saints are remembered by their death date. If we consider this, I think we find that being born is a very risky. Being alive alone allows the work of the Enemy to begin, with nothing but God’s grace to arm a new little baby against his wiles. We don’t liturgically celebrate the beginning of a saint’s earthly life because of this. We celebrate the death date because it marks the end of our opportunities to sin and for the Devil to draw us away from God. In Mary’s case, her birthday carried none of this uncertainty or worry. She who was spared the blight of original sin was given the grace to use her free will to serve God alone. From this precious creature came the only one more precious than she, the Lamb, the Savior of the World.
Let us give thanks to God for giving us His mother, who passed through life free from sin. Let us praise the God who granted us the gift of our Immaculate Mother!
I ask that you keep a family that I might today in your prayers. The baby that the mother was carrying died in utero at 36 weeks. She and her family are heartbroken. I ask you to pray for their faith, for their fortitude, for healing, and the comfort of a mother who suffers with them.
Our Lady, cause of our joy, pray for us!
Our Lady, Queen of Heave and Earth, pray for us!
