Story
To commemorate the canonization of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati and the centennial of his death in 2025, Br. François Marie Fontanié, CFR, painted a portrait of our newly canonized patron, the Man of the Beatitudes. The painting represents how Pier Giorgio has moved the hearts of many not just in his own city during his lifetime but also throughout the world after his death. On the left side, you see the skyline of Turin, Pier Giorgio’s home city, and on the right is the skyline of New York, where Pier Giorgio has changed our own lives so profoundly.
While Pier Giorgio never traveled to New York during his lifetime, we feel a spiritual tether to him here and have seen his legacy live on in Manhattan. Fr. Conrad, CFR, one of the founding friars of the Frassati Fellowship of NYC, was once in conversation with Wanda Gawronska, Pier Giorgio Frassati’s niece, when she mentioned that of all the countries in the world, her uncle was especially beloved in the United States. She remembered her mother, Luciana, telling her that her brother Pier Giorgio used to look at the map and always say he would love to travel to America someday. He never got to travel there during his lifetime. But Wanda looked at Fr. Conrad and said, "His feast day's on the fourth of July. I think he's there."
We were able to gift a high-quality reproduction of this painting to Wanda last summer. It moved her to tears, and it was such a gift to be able to thank her in person for all that she’s done for the canonization cause and to show her how her uncle’s legacy lives on. We also were granted approval to drop off a gift to Pope Leo XIV, and so he too received a high-quality reproduction of the painting. Now, we are making these high-quality reproductions available to the public for preorder.
